Deaths due to Diabetes Mellitus, 1999-2007

The map below shows the age-adjusted mortality rate due to diabetes mellitus from 1999-2007. The overall rate for Oklahoma was 29.3 deaths per 100,000 population, with a rate of 31.8 deaths per 100,000 population for rural counties (see map of rural Oklahoma). Harmon County had the highest rate at 119.6 deaths per 100,000 population and Harper County had the lowest rate at 10.9 deaths per 100,000 population. Regionally, southeast Oklahoma had the highest rate at 30.9 deaths per 100,000 population. The lowest regional rate was in northwest Oklahoma, including the Panhandle, at 27.7 deaths per 100,000 population. Northeast Oklahoma had a rate of 28.8 deaths per 100,000 population and the southwest region had a rate of 29.7 deaths per 100,000 population.
